Heart of a runner

(Written late winter, 2021)

After four days of no running

and no outdoors,

she was a caged wild thing,

heart beating frantically against the bars.

So she ran hard through the woods,

and rambled gently through the woods,

and stood still and silent,

listening

in the woods,

in the glorious wind and sun,

by the water

and at the top of the hill

until her heart beat peace and balance

again.
